Samuel A. Friede, FACHE
Director, Governance Initiative

 

Samuel A. Friede, FACHE, joined the HPI in September 1998 as director of HPI's governance initiative.  Previously he served as senior consultant at VHA Pennsylvania; director of the consulting and trustee services division of The Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania; and vice president of medical affairs and administrative services for Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. 

Mr. Friede holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Columbia University and earned his master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and presently serves on the boards of several health care and community institutions, including the board of Armstrong County Memorial Hospital and the ethics committee of St. Clair Hospital.  Mr. Friede also is a member of the Advisory Board of the Nonprofit Leadership Institute at Duquesne University.  He teaches "Fundamentals of Healthcare Governance," "Strategic Management," and "Integrated Delivery Systems" at the University of Pittsburgh.
