Samuel A. Friede, FACHE
Director, Governance Initiative

 

Samuel A. Friede, FACHE, joined the HPI in September 1998 as director of HPI's governance initiative.  Previously he served as senior consultant at VHA Pennsylvania; director of the consulting and trustee services division of The Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania; and vice president of medical affairs and administrative services for Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. 

Mr. Friede holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Columbia University and earned his master's degree in business administration with a specialization in hospital administration from the University of Chicago.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Secretary of the board for the Center for Organ Recovery and Education and serves on the board of Armstrong County Memorial Hospital and the ethics committee of St. Clair Hospital.  He is a member of HAP’s Trustee Leadership Steering Committee. Mr. Friede teaches “Fundamentals of Healthcare Governance,” “Health and Medical Care Organization,” “Leadership Professionalism and Career Development,” and “Integrated Delivery Systems” at the University of Pittsburgh.
